(The Patchwork Quilt) The Patchwork Quilt

The Patchwork Quilt

Life isn't given to us all of a piece,
It's more like a patchwork quilt ~
Each hour and minute a patch to fit in
To the pattern that's being built.

With some patches light ~ and some patches dark,
And some that seem ever so dull ~
But if we were given to set some apart,
We'd hardly know which to cull.

For it takes the dark patches to set off the light,
And the dull to show up the gay ~
And, somehow, the pattern just wouldn't be right
If we took any part away.

No, life isn't given to us all of a piece,
But in patches of hours to use,
That each can work out his pattern of life
To whatever design he might choose.

Quilters Poem

Love is a quilt ~ a quilt is love...
Both love and a quilt should be:
Soft enough to comfort you,
Bright enough to cheer you,
Generous enough to enfold you,
Light enough to let you move freely,
Strong enough to withstand adversity,
Durable enough to last a lifetime,
And given gladly, from the heart.

I remember when I was a small girl and I'd watch my Mom quilt. She'd have all these scraps and pieces of material all over the place...it didn't look much like something of beauty and worth. As she'd piece it all together, little by little it turned into this beautiful quilt! That reminds me of our lives...we've got bits and pieces here and there, and there are times we can't see what it's going to turn out to look like. God takes the pieces of our lives and puts it together to be something so beautiful...something of value and worth. Our lives are filled with 'quilt pieces'...friends, memories, our families, love, laughter...when they are all pieced together it makes a beautiful quilt that comforts and warms us in the hard and cold times ~ a quilt that covers us with love. I dedicate this page to my dear friend Paula...someone who reaches out and touches others by making quilts for them as gifts...she doesn't realize that in the process, she's warming them with her love and thoughtfulness. Thank you Paula, for being a part of my friendship quilt.
